Why this book?

  • Because Brigid Kemmerer revisits the tale of

    Beauty and the Beast

in an ultra-efficient and addictive young adult fantasy trilogy.

  • Because in the first volume,

A fate so dark and eternal,

we met Harper, a young American living in Washington and dragged despite herself into another world.

There, she was the prisoner of Prince Rhen and his guard Grey, stranded in an eternal autumn following the curse of a cruel enchantress.

Just like in the original tale, only true love can free the crown from this long-lasting spell.

  • Because three months have passed since the eventful end

    of the first volume.

While Rhen and Harper are obviously still central characters in the story,

A Heart So Loyal and Lonely

brings Grey's character to the fore more.

Thus, the narration is divided between the latter and a new heroine very interesting to discover: Lia Mara.

The latter is the daughter of the dangerous queen of the Pass of Syhl: Karis Luran.

  • Because the status of heir to Rhen is questioned

and the prince loses his authority over his people.

He will therefore seek to discover who his brother is, the true heir and, by extension, his new enemy.

When Gray realized who the rightful heir was, he chose to leave the castle and start a new life under an assumed name in an effort to protect this prince to whom all his loyalty lies.

Of course, things will not go as planned and confrontation is inevitable.

  • Because this sequel is simply brilliant.

Between manipulation, betrayals, military strategy, alliances and romance, the reader will be amazed.

The author, Brigid Kemmerer, once again demonstrates great talent in building a deep plot, carefully crafted characters and a rich universe.

In short, this second volume only confirms what was already emerging with the first: this series is absolutely amazing and impossible to let go.
