On Tuesday, July 12, the American Television Academy announced the nominees for the Primetime Emmy Awards.

With 25 nominations, the HBO drama series The Heirs led the way.

The first season of the project was released in 2018, and since then it has repeatedly fought for the prestigious award.

In 2020, its authors were awarded statuettes in the categories "Best Drama Series", "Best Actor in a Drama Series" (Jeremy Strong), "Best Directing for an Episode in a Drama Series" and "Best Writing for a Drama Series".

In second place with 20 nominations are Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso and HBO's White Lotus.

17 nominations each for the projects "Murders in the same building" (Hulu) and "Cunning" (HBO Max).

The acclaimed "The Squid Game" is presented in 14 categories, which is the best result for non-English-language projects in the history of the award.

Television network HBO and video service HBO Max, which produce such hits as "Euphoria", "Successors" and "Barry", received a total of 140 nominations this year, setting a new record.

The previous one belonged to Netflix (130).

This time, the pictures of the popular platform have 105 nominations.

At the same time, out of the eight films presented in the main category - "Best Drama Series" - four were released on Netflix: "Better Call Saul", "Ozark", "The Squid Game" and "Very Strange Things".

The premiere of the final episodes of the fourth season of the last of them took place on July 1, after which the show became the second multi-episode project of the site to overcome the mark of 1 billion hours of viewing.

Despite such popularity of the project this year, the Emmy figurines may become the first in the collection of its authors.

Other contenders for the award for best drama series are Euphoria, Separation, Hornets and Descendants.

The performers of roles in all these films, except for Stranger Things, are fighting for victory in acting nominations.

Among them are Lee Jong-jae ("The Squid Game"), Bob Odenkirk ("Better Call Saul"), Adam Scott ("Separation"), Laura Linney ("Ozark") and Zendaya ("Euphoria").

Also vying for prizes are Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh, who starred in the thriller Killing Eve, and Reese Witherspoon for her role in The Morning Show.

Among the documentary works, members of the academy singled out the Tinder Swindler project about a fraudster who pretended to be a millionaire, met girls and deceived them for money.

The Andy Warhol Diaries series about the famous American artist can also receive the award.

In addition, the documentary Controlling Britney Spears, which tells about the guardianship of a pop star, claims to be a statuette.

From it it became known that the actions of the artist's father, who was appointed guardian, harmed her.

After the release of the tape, many details of the life of Britney Spears were revealed to the public.

In particular, it turned out that for a long time every step of the artist was controlled.

In the fall of 2021, Spears' father was removed from custody.

The Primetime Emmys are awarded in 119 categories related to television and video services.

The 74th solemn ceremony will take place on September 12, 2022.
