In Jiushaping Village, Jingxin Town, Hunchun City, Jilin Province, geese often tasted the rice in the fields every autumn.

Conflicts between humans and birds occur from time to time during the migratory bird migration season.

But in recent years, the villagers not only look forward to the geese, but also treat them warmly.

This transformation starts with the local cultivation of "big wild goose rice".

The so-called big wild goose rice refers to returning to traditional farming methods, relying on ducks to weed, without using pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or driving migratory birds, and the rice ears left over from harvesting are used as food supplies for migratory birds.

The yield of Big Goose rice is not high, but due to its good quality, it can often be sold at a higher price, and its comprehensive income is higher than that of ordinary rice.

In addition, due to the rise of the "bird watching economy" of geese, rural tourism has become quite prosperous, attracting a large number of tourists from home and abroad.

In today's Jingxin Town, hundreds of thousands of geese will stop in the spring and autumn.

The geese rose and fell, and the scene was spectacular. The villagers volunteered to set up a bird protection team.

The villagers and the geese "turned enemies into friends".

Better known than geese in Hunchun are the Siberian tiger and Siberian leopard, which disappeared for a while in the late 1990s.

Today, Hunchun has become the region with the most wild Siberian tigers and Siberian leopards in China (at least 27 Siberian tigers and 33 Siberian leopards), so it is called "the hometown of tigers and leopards".

Hunchun is located at the junction of China, Russia and North Korea. It is the last stop for Siberian tigers and Siberian leopards to leave China and go abroad.

In order to restore the living environment of tigers and leopards, Jilin Hunchun Siberian Tiger Nature Reserve was officially established in 2001. Four years later, it was promoted to a national-level nature reserve, becoming the first national-level nature reserve in China to protect tigers and leopards and their habitats. Area.

Patrol work is an important support for tiger and leopard protection.

Every winter, Hunchun will hold a massive "Lighting the Way Home for Siberian Tigers" voluntary clearing activity. Volunteers, wildlife protection experts, army officers and soldiers, and forest police officers braved the cold and knee-deep snow. In the deep mountains and old forests, patrol the clear sets.

Some experienced rangers told reporters that now, when entering the mountains at four or five in the morning, sika deer and wild boars can be seen everywhere, and the footprints left by Siberian tigers and Siberian leopards are also clearly discernible.

In the local area, it is not new to encounter Siberian tigers and Siberian leopards while driving.

The surveillance cameras installed in the forest have restored the colorful life of Siberian tigers and Siberian leopards to the outside world. Some are hunting, some are bringing babies, some are roaring and demonstrating, some are strolling in the courtyard, and some are just whirring. Get a good night's sleep.

In October 2021, the Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park was officially established. As the core area for the life of Siberian tigers and Siberian leopards, Hunchun actively explores the long-term mechanism of wildlife protection with the park, and fully promotes the protection of wild animals and plants.

The reporter learned that Hunchun established the first community-managed patrol team, and 6 villagers received professional patrol training.

"In the past, the most common footprints in the mountains were human footprints, but not now. Traces of animals can be seen everywhere. It is also very interesting to study their traces and behaviors," said one of the team members.

In recent years, Hunchun has paid special attention to ecological protection in the process of promoting economic development, and the concept of green development is rooted in the hearts of the people.

At present, Hunchun has a forest coverage rate of 86% and more than 1,270 kinds of wild animal and plant resources. It is a veritable ecological homeland.
