Before the "Nachi Fire Festival" to be held on the 14th of this month at Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine, a world heritage site in Nachikatsuura Town, Wakayama Prefecture, a new shimenawa was put up on the "Nachi Falls".

"Nachi Falls" is the shrine of Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine, Hitaki Shrine, and the ropes that hang on the waterfall are replaced in front of the annual festival "Nachi no Ougi Matsuri" held on July 14th every year.

The festival was held in a reduced form due to the influence of the new Corona, but this year it will be held on a normal scale for the first time in three years.

On the 9th, five priests dressed in white costume climbed a steep mountain road to the top of a 133-meter-high waterfall with a new shimenawa.

After that, I tied a lifeline to my waist so that it would not be washed away by water, and attached a new 26-meter-long shimenawa to the tree.

Then, after attaching a white cloth called "paper shide" to the shimenawa, both ends were pulled to make it tense, and the festival was ready.

Daisuke Ido of Kumano Nachi Taisha said, "We have renewed the festival with the hope that it will be held safely for the first time in three years. I want you to see God again while experiencing it."
