In June 2021, François Ruffin, then deputy La France insoumise, accused the Macron government of having "a wallet instead of the heart".

He thus contested a revision of the calculation of the disabled adult allowance (AAH) for people in couples, a revision providing for taking into account the income of the spouse for the calculation of the aid.

A year later, Fiona, beneficiary of the AAH, denounces this “injustice”.

Allowance or Love

Afflicted from birth with Usher syndrome, “a genetic disease affecting sight and balance”, Fiona is profoundly deaf and “implanted in both ears”.

A severe handicap which fortunately did not prevent the young woman from living almost independently… thanks to the income provided by the AAH and the benevolent help of Jérémy, her companion.

But the lovers have just realized that if they want to get married – or just move in together – Fiona will have to give up part of her allowance!

A perspective that she finds it difficult to envisage: “I don't want my spouse to pay everything for both of us.

A couple is 50/50, we both have to pay for everything, we do things together”.

Jérémy, he regrets that "when you are already disabled in your life, you must also become a handicap for those around you".
