From our special correspondent in Rabat,

The first participation of the Togo team in a women's African Cup of Nations ended in the group stage of CAN 2022 on July 9.

A rather painful end to the journey for the Togolese, especially for their goalkeeper Ame Amouklou.

The ordeal of Togolese goalkeeper Ame Amouklou

The latter, abandoned by her defense, indeed saw a real ordeal in the first period.

She lost a duel with striker Grace Chanda (1-0, 15th), let midfielder Ireen Lungu score from afar (2-0, 21st) and lost on a shot from a tight angle signed Siomala Mapepa (3 -1, 40th).

From the 3rd minute, Ame Amouklou however diverted a penalty from defender Lushomo Mweemba, then multiplied decisive interventions (9th, 10th, 38th).

Without all these parades, Togo would be led 4-0 or 5-0 at the break.

The Eperviers Dames even maintain the illusion by returning to 2-1 when, on a bell pass, the opposing goalkeeper Hazel Nali misjudges the trajectory of the ball and lets herself be lobbed.

The captain of Togo Mafille Woedikou, who followed, only has to accompany him to the back of the net (35th).

Zambia-Senegal in the quarter-finals

In the second half, the Zambians nevertheless resumed their march forward.

On a bell center, Chanda surprises Amouklou and offers himself a double (4-1, 60th).

It's the end of illusions for the team led by Kaï Tomety.

Thanks to this success, the Zambians end up first in group B. The Copper Queens will therefore face Senegal on July 13 in Casablanca.

For the other posters, we will have to wait for the outcome of this first round, this July 10 with South Africa – Botswana and Nigeria – Burundi (group C).

One thing is certain: Togo will not be among them, unlike Cameroon and Tunisia.

Cameroonians who finish second in group B after beating the Tunisians 2-0 (goals from Michaela Abam, 3rd, and Ajara Njoya, 90th) in Casablanca.
