“Grand reportage” takes us today to Sheikh Jarrah.

This Palestinian neighborhood of East Jerusalem has been at the heart of a legal battle for fifty years.

It pits Palestinians against Jewish settlers, who seek to take over their homes, against a backdrop of Israeli occupation.

In May 2021, it was these attempts to evict Palestinians that triggered the war in Gaza.

More recently, in January 2022, the life of a Palestinian family, the Salhiya family, turned upside down on a cold winter night.

At 3 am, the Israeli police launched the assault: the members of this family were arrested and evacuated.

The bulldozers raze their house and bury the memories of a lifetime under the rubble.

Behind this unprecedented violence hides a very complex affair, a story within history, made up of accusations of treason and, a priori, unrelated to the other attempts of the settlers to expel the Palestinians from the neighborhood, but with the same end : “Judaize Jerusalem entirely”, as denounced by the anti-occupation activists.

"Sheikh Jarrah, a coveted piece of Palestine", a great report by Sami Boukhelifa.
