A woman drowns her three children and kills herself after her husband commits suicide

CBS News reported that a woman afflicted by the death of her husband killed her three children and herself, as the bodies of the four victims were found in a lake in Minnesota, in the United States of America.

The police announced that their suspicions were that the victim committed suicide after drowning her three children in water, after she had threatened to do so.

Officers at Maplewood Police Department had received a report from 23-year-old Molly Cheng that her husband, 27-year-old Yi Li, had shot himself.

The incident followed arrangements by the police with regional social workers to provide assistance to the woman and her three children.

But later that afternoon, a relative made an emergency call, stating that Molly "would have killed herself and her children," prompting police to issue a statewide alert.

By about 5:45 p.m. local time, Molly's phone was traced to an area near the lake, followed minutes later by the discovery of a car connected to the family.

The body of a child, later identified as four-year-old quadrillion T. Lee, was quickly recovered from the lake that evening.

The hours that followed resulted in the exhumation of the bodies of five-year-old Phoenix Lee and three-year-old Estella Zhou Siap Lee.

Molly Cheng's body was also pulled out of the water, where officials determined she had committed suicide, with the cause of death listed as drowning, according to the Complex media company.

"Our thoughts are with the family, friends and community affected by this terrible tragedy," Ramsey County Sheriff's Assistant Mike Martin said in a joint statement Tuesday.

Noting that the mayor's office continues to investigate the circumstances of this incident to provide clarifications to the surviving family members.
