This Monday is considered a "historic" day by some lavender producers in Drôme, Vaucluse and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

And for good reason, it was the official launch of the UNESCO World Heritage application for the "olfactory and poetic landscapes of lavender", reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.

Lavender soon to be recognized as a @UNESCO_fr World Heritage Site?

A long process

The challenge of this application is twofold because the inclusion of these landscapes in the UNESCO World Heritage would allow both cultural recognition but also an undeniable contribution on the economic level.

Indeed, such recognition would give visibility to lavender around the world.

As a general rule, a site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site can generate 20% more visitors to the territory concerned.

However, the producers know it: the process promises to be long.

First of all, it will be necessary to delimit the zone concerned.

Then, it will be necessary to wait at least five years, the time that the candidacy is studied in depth before knowing the final verdict.
