Emilie König, one of the best-known French jihadists, is one of 16 mothers repatriated to France on Tuesday from jihadist prison camps in Syria, a source familiar with the matter told AFP.

This 37-year-old woman, originally from Brittany and left for Syria in 2012, is accused of having recruited for IS and called for attacks in the West.

She was the subject of an arrest warrant and should be indicted and then imprisoned after her appearance before the magistrates, said this source.

35 repatriated minors

France has repatriated 35 minors and 16 mothers present in jihadist prison camps in Syria since the fall of the Islamic State organization (IS), announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“France today proceeded to the return to the national territory of 35 French minor children who were in the camps in north-eastern Syria.

This operation also includes the return of 16 mothers from these same camps,” according to the press release, which specifies that the mothers have been handed over to the judicial authorities and the children to child welfare services.
