The summer season for tourist railway trips through Galicia is already underway.

You just have to choose the most desired route (there are 13 and two new ones, the

Galician cheese

route and the As Mariñas route) and get on the train.

For the record, the getaways not only seek to discover the most beautiful landscapes of the region, but also to enjoy the

local gastronomy

through tastings and visits to

cheese factories or wineries

.

37 departures are planned between now and October by Turismo de Galicia and Renfe (check dates and times at renfe.com; the price is 45 euros for adults and 20 for children).

Below, all the proposals that run through the autonomous community on rails.

1. Route of the Ribeira Sacra along the Sil River

The most popular route of all is this one aboard the

Aba Sacra

motorized train bound for

the Regina Viarum winery.

The Monforte Wine Interpretation Center is also known and the Sil River is crossed in a catamaran through the canyons, as well as a guided visit to the

Monastery of San Pedro de Rocas

, where a monk officiates the ceremony of the queimada with tasting.

2. North Coast Lighthouse Route

One of the most beautiful routes is that of the lighthouses, which allows you to contemplate Cape Ortegal and the

Vixía de Herbeira

viewpoint on one of the highest cliffs in Europe.

The legendary village of Santo Andrés de Teixido is also visited, as well as

Cabo de Estaca de Bares,

the historic center of Viveiro and the cliffs of Loiba.

Ferrol.

3. Route of the Ribeira Sacra along the Miño River

The Monastery of Santa María de Ferreira de Pantón is the jewel of this route.

There, the nuns

of the Bernardas convent

make their famous confectionery.

The trip includes visiting the Arxeriz ethnographic eco-museum, a catamaran ride on the Miño River to

Cabo do Mundo

and a tasting at the Vía Romana winery, located in a 16th-century manor house.

Ourense.

4. Route of O Ribeiro and the Rías Baixas

It is time to discover the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin in enclaves such as the Señorío de Rubiós winery and the O Ribeiro winery, which includes a walk through the

medieval town of Ribadavia

and its castle, the Galician Wine Museum and the

San Cibrao de Las fort.

There is also time to visit the Santa Crux de Arrabaldo railway station, rehabilitated as a museum complex.

5. Route of the monasteries

One of its main attractions is a visit to the baroque

Pazo de Oca

, known as

the Galician Versailles

for its impressive gardens.

You will also visit the

Benedictine monastery of Carboeiro

, the Temple of Veracruz and the Great Spa, in

O Carballiño,

following the course of the Arenteiro River.

Oseira, the first Cistercian monastery in Galicia, is the end point of the route.

6. Rias Baixas Wine Route

The route goes into the interior of the

Arousa estuary

to visit the medieval

Torres de Oeste, in Catoira

, a strategic containment enclave for the barbarian hordes that tried to go up the river to plunder Santiago.

Includes a visit to the Pazo de Baión cellars and the monumental town of

Cambados, the capital of Albariño,

and the Pazo de Fefiñáns.

The route concludes with a boat ride on the Vigo estuary and disembarkation on the island of San Simón.

Santiago de Compostela.

The trains cover up to 13 themed routes.

7. Route of As Mariñas

One of the two new routes this season runs through

As Mariñas and Terras do Mandeo

(Biosphere Reserve), from A Coruña to Ferrol.

It begins with a visit to

Betanzos

to see the medieval complex of the historic center.

Later, a stop is made at the Orballo facilities, in Paderne, to visit the only tea plantation in continental Europe.

Pontedeume

is then visited

, ending in Ferrol with a boat trip along the estuary and another through the A Madalena neighbourhood.

8. Route of the historic manors and gardens

The tour includes a visit to three gardens, two of which are included in the register of Gardens of International Excellence for Camellias, which are those of the

Pazo de Rubiáns

and the botanical park of the Castillo de Soutomaior, in the province of Pontevedra.

The route concludes with a visit to the gardens of the

Pazo Quinteiro da Cruz

, in the region of O Salnés.

9. Monterey Route

It begins with a visit to the

medieval castle of Monterrei,

a hallmark of the region's identity, where a tasting of its wines will be offered.

We visit the Gargalo winery and the old quarter of the

town of Verín

.

Finally, you can enjoy a walk through Allariz to enjoy its

International Garden Festival

, on the banks of the Arnoia River.

Last stop: the Baños de Molgas

railway station ,

converted into a museum and restaurant.

10. Lamprey Route

Pontevedra capital is the point of origin of this route that includes a visit to the Wine Science Museum, located in the

castle of Salvaterra do Miño

.

Next, you will reach the historic center of Tui and its cathedral-fortress.

In the afternoon we

visit the pesqueiras de Arbo,

centuries-old constructions used to capture lampreys in the Miño River.

Other essentials on the route are the Arabo Wine and Lamprey Interpretation Center and

the Condado-Paradanta Cooperative in As Neves

, for tasting cottage cheese and honey and Rías Baixas wines.

Pontevedra.

11. Route along the Caminos de Santiago

Leaving La Coruña, within the Camino Inglés, the first stop is

Sobrado dos Monxes

to visit the Cistercian monastery of Santa María, already on the Camino del Norte.

With a small section on foot passing by the

chapel of Santo Alberte,

in the afternoon it continues through Samos, on the French Way, to stop at the Benedictine monastery of San Julián.

The trip ends at the wall of Lugo, on the

Primitive Way,

and returns to La Coruña.

12. Route of the Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras

From Orense you reach the pier on the Sil River to board the catamaran and tour the canyons to the

Santo Estevo Monastery

.

Later, the route continues to Valdeorras to visit the

sanctuary of As Ermidas

, in the Bibei river valley.

Later, we visit the A Coroa winery, to taste the Valdeorras wine, and finish at the Os Peares railway station.

Ourense.

Visit to the center of Valdeorras.

13. Galician Cheese Route

Visit three of the four appellations of origin for Galician cheeses.

The first stop is at Sobrado dos Monxes to enter the

Casa do Queixo,

with a tasting of Tetilla and Arzúa-Ulloa.

The next visit is to the

Don Crisanto cheese factory, in Vilalba

, where you can meet the San Simón da Costa.

In the afternoon, the Arqueixal eco-agrotourism project

,

in Albá (Palas de Rei), focused on Arzúa-Ulloa cheese, is known.
