So far, the total mileage of China's highways crossing the world's second largest mobile desert has exceeded 1,200 kilometers.
The Yuqi Desert Highway is located in the southern part of Xinjiang, and the whole line is within the territory of the Bayingoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang.
It is the third road that crosses the Taklimakan Desert after the Tarim Desert Highway and the Ahe Highway.
The reporter saw that in the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert, a brand-new and flat road extends to the far side of the desert, and the grass squares on both sides of the road to prevent wind and sand have already been laid, with a total area of more than 58 million square meters.
According to Jing Wenyun, chief engineer of the Yuli-Qiemo highway project, the highway is the desert highway with the longest mileage, the widest distribution of mobile sand dunes, the worst construction conditions and the most difficult construction in the world.
