The municipal council of Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine) was canceled this Thursday after a demonstration which brought together more than 300 people on the forecourt of the town hall.

The participants wanted to express their dissatisfaction with a potential closure of the Philippe-Candeloro ice rink, reports

Inside, a few dozen of them prevented the debates by shouting and making noise.

The mayor (EELV) Patrick Chaimovitch recently announced the suspension of the public operation of the ice rink.

It would take "nearly 8 million euros for a partial rehabilitation and at least 15 million euros for a total restructuring", he explained.

Former champion Philippe Candeloro was also present at the event.

“I want it to stay open, at least until the 2024 Olympics,” he commented on the sports equipment.

The mayor assured that a multi-leisure site project was studied, "with if possible an ice rink".

The next city council cannot take place before July 5, the time to convene the elected municipal officials again.
