Many people go for their daily cardio by walking or jogging outdoors, but many struggle with doing it the wrong way.

Express has published 5 key tips from Olympian Donna Fraser to help get you started on these exercises the right way:

1. Avoid injury

You should also invest in some comfortable and well-fitting running shoes to ensure your feet and ankles are taken care of.

2. Warm up

Always make sure to warm up before you start running by taking a brisk five-minute walk and doing some dynamic stretching as this will help ensure your muscles are warm so you don't injure yourself.

3. Running at intervals

To start your running journey, start by combining periods of walking and jogging. You can do 2 minutes of walking with 30 seconds of jogging at first, then start decreasing the amount of time walking and increasing your running time.

Controlling your breathing is key when getting started, and practicing breathing techniques even when you're not exercising.

4. Setting goals

It is recommended to set an achievable schedule and make sure you stick to it with rest days in between. Small, realistic goals like these help boost your confidence and give you a great foundation.

5. Posture

It is advised to check and reset yourself and your body regularly while maintaining proper breathing technique.
