Wang Wei believes that the Caoxieshan site is a complete "book from the ground" of the historical development of the Yangtze River Delta region, and has a milestone significance in archaeology.

  The Caoxieshan site is located in the northeast of Weiting Town, Suzhou, with a total area of ​​about 450,000 square meters. It is the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

From 1992 to 1995, archaeologists from China and Japan carried out the earliest rice field archaeological work in China at the Caoxieshan site, where they discovered the site of a rice field more than 6,000 years ago.

This is the first time in the world that a rice field with an irrigation system has been discovered, causing a sensation at home and abroad.

Therefore, the Caoxieshan site is also known as "the ruler of Jiangnan prehistoric culture" and "the hometown of the world's rice farming culture".

  Wang Wei, director of the History Department of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and chairman of the Chinese Archaeological Society, believes that the Caoxieshan site has benchmark significance for the study of the civilization process and the origin of the country in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

The Caoxieshan site is the central settlement of the prehistoric culture in the south of the Yangtze River. The site preserves the complete development sequence of the prehistoric culture in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and reproduces the development history of prehistoric humans in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
