A resident of Langrune-sur-Mer (Calvados) discovered a flatworm in his garden in early June.
Thanks to a photo, this black earthworm with a yellow stripe was identified by David Philippart, director of Fredon Normandie (Regional Federation for the Defense against Pests).
This is the first report of the presence of this pest in the department, reports Actu Normandie
The flatworm is a danger to local biodiversity due to its out-of-control proliferation and particularly voracious predation, remind our colleagues.
It feeds on woodlice, insects, myriapods and spiders, but also earthworms essential to the well-being of ecosystems.
The MNHN recommends crushing or burning it
Thus, an expert from the MNHN (National Museum of Natural History) in Paris, interviewed by
Actu Normandie,
simply recommends, in order to preserve his garden, to crush or burn the worm, no chemical product being able to eliminate it.
