The reporter learned from the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that recently, researchers collected a new species of fish in Fengshan County, Hechi City, Guangxi, named Cailao Gui Motou, which belongs to the newly-built "Gui Motou genus".

It is understood that this research was completed by the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

After examining and sorting out the specimens and analyzing the molecular phylogeny, researchers found that the dace fish collected in Cailao Village, Fengcheng Town, Fengshan County, is a new species.

The lower lip of this new species is specialized as a sucker structure and has a well-developed upper lip.

After comparing it with other taxa with suckers, it was confirmed that it does not belong to any known genus, so a new genus was established called the genus Cinnamon, and a new species was named.

In recent years, new species of fish have been discovered in Guangxi, such as Du'an blue carp, Jingxi Zuojiang fish, Hechi cave loach, etc.

According to reports, the dace subfamily belongs to the Cyprinidae, which is a class of small and medium-sized freshwater fish that adapt to the flowing water environment and mainly feed on algae.

Species of this subfamily are widely distributed in southern Eurasia and central Africa. Due to their special adaptation to the environment, their species have extremely high diversity in oral structure. Currently, there are more than 40 genera and 400 species.
