The term "gamification" describes the approach of using game-typical elements to motivate people to carry out complex or even monotonous tasks.

In the IT field, gamification is a popular and efficient way to collect data or train AI applications.

It is probably not surprising that the company Alphabet, whose best-known product is the search engine Google, also relies on gamification.

An entertaining game can be found at https://research.google.com/semantris/ in which the Google algorithms are trained: They are supposed to "learn" what associations and meaning structures there are for certain words.

The more the knowledge storage of these algorithms fills up, the more likely it is that users of the search engine will ultimately be led to the right result even with a rather dry or short entry in the search field.

The "Semantris" project currently consists of two games that work according to the same principle: You are given one or more words and are asked to spontaneously type in a word that has a logical connection with the given words.

For example, you could answer the prompt "Planet" with "Jupiter" or "Saturn" - or "Breakfast" with "cereals" and "coffee".

If you manage to select association terms that others often think of as well, you will be rewarded with bonus points.

All this is available under time pressure in "Arcade" mode or in a relaxed manner in "Blocks" mode.

Have fun with the word games à la Tetris!
