While the new technique of "preimplantation genetic diagnosis", which examines the chromosomes of fertilized eggs and returns normal ones to the uterus, is expected to reduce miscarriage, it is not clear whether the probability of having a baby will increase. It is carried out only for people.

The Japanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology has announced that it will issue a request for the government to call attention to this technology, saying that it will be implemented by clinics in Tokyo for all those who wish.

A new technique for preimplantation genetic diagnosis called "PGT-A" that examines the chromosomes of fertilized eggs and returns those that are normal to the uterus has been available since April for couples who have had a miscarriage more than once. It is conducted at about 200 medical institutions approved by the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

However, according to the academic society, a clinic that has newly entered the field of fertility treatment will open in Tokyo this month and announce that this test will be conducted for all those who wish.

The academic society limits the number of people to be tested because the effect of the test on increasing the probability of giving birth is not clear worldwide and there is an ethical problem of selecting fertilized eggs. ..

The Society has decided to submit a request to the State to alert relevant agencies to follow the rules of the Society and to establish a public body to discuss the matter.

At a press conference, Mr. Tadashi Kimura, President of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said, "There are limits to what the society can do, and I would like to ask the government to take action."

On the other hand, the clinic says, "I understand the rules of the society, but I want to meet the needs of couples suffering from infertility."
