After the exit of more than 200 thousand subscribers .. “Netflix with ads” to face the decline in revenues

Although the US Internet streaming service, "Netflix", has always confirmed that it strongly believes in keeping marketing away from its platform, it has announced that it will start showing ads soon.

Netflix has never shown ads during or before its shows or movies, but in recent months reports have indicated that it is considering an “ad-free” category, after Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings indicated he was “interested in the idea.” .

Now, the company has confirmed that it plans to launch a new subscription category that will display ads.

The company's other CEO, Ted Sarandos, confirmed that the new plan "will be rolled out soon," noting that it "will allow the company to bring in users who are happier watching ads and paying less for their subscription," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"We've left a large segment of customers off the table, the people who say 'OK, Netflix is too expensive for me, and I don't mind watching ads.'

Sarandos emphasized that the ads would appear in a separate category, "not in the Netflix we know today."

This step comes, according to "Sky News Arabia", at a time when the company is suffering from a decline in its revenues and user base, forcing it to lay off about 300 additional employees, as part of efforts to reduce expenses.

The number of employees decided to be laid off is now nearly double the number that the company announced its dismissal last May.

It is noteworthy that "Netflix" is restructuring its operations after the exit of more than 200,000 subscribers during the first quarter of 2022.
