A British man's lung exploded due to "laughing gas"!

Nitrous oxide gas, known as "laughing gas", caused a young man's lungs to explode when he inhaled to satiation.

The young man, Alex Littler, had inhaled a large amount of gas during a party he was attending with his friends, according to the British newspaper, "Mirror".

The newspaper said Alex Littler was taken to hospital last Monday after he complained of a swollen neck, shortness of breath and the feeling of popping bubbles when touched due to air leaking from a ruptured lung.

The newspaper reported that the 16-year-old was forced to confess to doctors and his mother, Cathy McCann, 44, that he inhaled "nitrous oxide" while he was on Park Life in Manchester over the weekend.

Paramedics said he was lucky to be alive, but doctors warned he might need surgery to remove the air trapped around his lungs and heart.

Nitrous oxide gas is usually bought in cans and is legally used as an anesthetic or as a propellant for whipped cream, however, it is sometimes injected into balloons to be inhaled by those looking for a mood boost.

Cathy says the ordeal was terrifying and Alex vowed not to inhale this gas again, stressing that he did not know the risks.

She added: "He said it was the worst thing he could do, he didn't realize himself and didn't know what the risks were and did it because all his buddies were doing it."

And she continued, "I came home from work on Monday night and he was in bed... I asked him what it was because he never went to bed, and he said that his chest was tight and he felt short of breath."

And she added, "When I pressed on his chest, it looked like a bubble wrap, he was in pain and his neck was swollen, every time I pressed a little, I heard a crackling... I panicked and called an ambulance immediately."
