Cookie Monster, Elmo and Abby as robots: An offshoot of the world-famous children's show "Sesame Street" will soon be shown on German private broadcaster Super RTL.

This was confirmed on Wednesday by a spokeswoman for the broadcaster at the request of the German Press Agency.

The spin-off "Mecha Builders" is scheduled to run in the Super RTL program from autumn.

The colorful characters from the animated series were presented in a trailer at the Screenforce Days industry meeting on Wednesday.

The series consists of 52 eleven-minute episodes.

Super RTL has secured the "Mecha Builders" rights from the "Sesame Street" inventors Sesame Workshop, said the spokeswoman in Cologne.

Sesame Workshop is an international non-profit educational organization.

At the same time, the station will be the exclusive marketer of the merchandising rights to "Mecha Builders", which was produced in the Canadian animation studio Guru Studio.

Well-known characters in a new design

According to Super RTL, "Mecha Builders" combines entertainment with education for the target group of three to six-year-olds.

“The series features three main characters, Mecha Elmo, Mecha Abby, and Mecha Crumbs, as robot heroes-in-training who use their superpowers to solve problems.

The trio's suits are stuffed to the brim with tech.

So they are well prepared for the challenges that await them: a broken cinema screen, a melting ice slide or an asteroid hurtling towards earth.” The three friends always try out several ideas until they find a solution to their task .

They use their individual robot superpowers and learn something about mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology along the way.

Super RTL Managing Director Thorsten Braun said of the deal: "Our partnership with Sesame Workshop is a milestone for Super RTL.

We will continue to reach more children and families with stories of the Cookie Monster and his friends through our channels.”

The actual, original "Sesame Street" with rag dolls is produced by the public broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) as a license partner for Germany, since 2009 as a purely in-house production.

The copyright holder is Sesame Workshop, headquartered in the USA.

On January 8, 2023, the children's program in Germany will be 50 years old.
