A horrific video of the torture and killing of the endangered hornbill provokes anger

A shocking video showing the great Indian hornbill being brutally tortured to murder has sparked outrage on social media.

The video clip shows three people beating a beautiful hornbeam with a stick on its head, in the Woka district of Nagaland.

Notably, the Great Indian Hornbill is a protected bird and listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The video was shared on Instagram and captioned as, "What a horrific video. This is a wonderful bird, an endangered species on the Schedule 1 Wildlife Conservation List, being tortured and beaten to death!!! This is the state that celebrates at the Hornbill Festival.

The video angered Internet users, and many demanded that the perpetrators be punished firmly.

One commentator on the video wrote: "The responsible perpetrators have already been arrested and detained by the relevant authorities."

Another commented: "How could they do such a thing to this beauty."

According to Indian news reports, three people were arrested by the Indian police under the Wildlife and Weapons Act for torturing and killing birds.

The Wildlife Department team is conducting further investigations, as the weapon used to kill the bird has been confiscated, while parts of the bird have been found.
