9 of one family committed suicide under mysterious circumstances

Police in Sangli district of Maharashtra state have opened an investigation after the bodies of nine members of one family were found in two homes in the town of Mahisal on Monday.

Despite the mystery surrounding this mass suicide, police said there were no injuries on any of the bodies and that they suspect the deaths were the result of a suicide pact triggered by financial problems.

According to police, the nine bodies were found Monday noon at the homes of veterinarian Manic Vanmore, 49, and his brother, Bobat Vanmore, 52, a teacher, in the town of Bethlehem.

Police said that while six bodies were found in one of the two homes, the other three were in the second home, located about one kilometer away.

Senior police officers in Sangli district rushed to the scene, where a preliminary investigation was launched.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Virkar said: "We found what appeared to be a suicide note. The nine deceased belonged to the families of two brothers - a vet and a teacher. All initial clues indicate that the deaths were the result of a suicide pact. While the causes are currently being investigated, we suspect that the families faced Some financial problems.

Inspector General of Police in Kolhapur District, Manojkumar Lohya, said: "Initial investigation indicates that there were no external injuries in any of the bodies. It appears that some kind of poisoning was the cause of the suicide by suicide."
