A trader in Egypt's civilization and its antiquities... 5 years imprisonment and a fine of 2 million pounds against "Ali Baba" and his wife

Today, Saturday, the Cairo Criminal Court, headed by Counselor Abdel Hamid Hammam, issued its verdict against the defendants in the case known in the media as “Ali Baba’s Cave.”


The court decided to try Ahmed Abdel Fattah Hassan and Magda Mohamed, to five years in prison, with a fine of one million pounds each, and the confiscation of the antiquities seized in the Zamalek apartment case.

Counselor Hamada El-Sawy, the Public Prosecutor, had ordered the referral of the owner of the Zamalek apartment and his wife, to the Criminal Court, for their trafficking in antiquities, by their habit of buying, selling and exchanging them, and their possession of 1,384 artifacts, dating back to different periods of the ancient Egyptian civilization, Islamic eras and the era of the Muhammad Ali family, which are subject to Legally protected and not registered with the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

The two defendants also did not notify the Council of them to register them within the legally prescribed period, knowing their antiquities, as well as concealing 119 pieces of Muhammad Ali’s family property, which were issued by the Revolutionary Command Council’s decision on November 8, 1953 to confiscate them.
