In recent years, using the functional core area of the capital to relieve the old factories and warehouses, etc., the Dongcheng District of Beijing has introduced cultural and creative enterprises with low space occupation, high added value and good growth potential, vacated the cages and replaced the birds, and cultivated 42 high-rise buildings. High-quality "new factories", these "Hutong creative factories" have injected new vitality into the old city of Beijing.

In Nanyang·Shaanxi, located in Nanyang Hutong, Dongcheng District, Beijing, Deputy General Manager Zhao Yuqing still remembers that on the first day the coffee shop opened, the old man in the backyard heard about it. He opened the window across the wall and stretched out a large enamel cup. "The young man will bring me a cup of coffee to refresh my mind." This is the first "theatre sharing life community" in Beijing that integrates creative incubation, rehearsal performances, leisure accommodation, etc. Before the trial operation in 2019, this building Has been sleeping for 25 years.

In recent years, using the functional core area of the capital to relieve the old factories and warehouses, Dongcheng District has introduced cultural and creative enterprises with low space occupation, high added value and good growth potential, vacated the cages and replaced the birds, and cultivated 42 high-quality cultural and creative enterprises. "New factories", these "Hutong creative factories" have injected new vitality into the old city of Beijing.

  Brilliant Industrial Past

The Damofang Cultural and Creative Park, which faces Yongdingmen City Tower across the moat, can be traced back to the Tianmin Mechanized Flour Factory established in 1918. Now it has emerged as the "Damofang Cultural and Creative Park" and has become the center of the South Central Axis. A new territory of cultural creativity.

"In 1982, the first fried instant noodle production line was introduced, and 'Tiantan brand' instant noodles became the memory of many Beijingers. In 1992, Beijing Grain Industry Company cooperated with foreign capital to establish Beijing Damoulin Flour Co., Ltd., and introduced a modern wheat flour production line from Switzerland." Damoulin Flour' has become synonymous with Beijing's special flour, and this factory has always been an important 'noodle bag' for Beijing citizens."

Shi Yasha, head of the Development Office of Shounong Group, told the "Workers Daily" reporter.

Today, in the Damofang Cultural and Creative Park, 13 buildings with different external forms and internal spaces designed according to the flour processing process have been completely preserved. The facade still retains the original French red bricks. The milling equipment is a testimony to the history of Beijing's grain industry.

Like the "Da Moulin", many factories in the hutongs had a glorious history and made indelible contributions to the development of the city.

From the East Art Museum Street between the National Art Museum of China and Sanlian Publishing House, go north all the way to the back street of the Art Museum, and the 77 Cultural and Creative Park appears on the left side of pedestrians.

In the center of Beijing, this former factory is more like a "siheyuan". The building is surrounded on all sides. Several industrial buildings with different histories were built in the 1960s, 1970s and 1990s, and the surrounding is a different kind of quiet. .

This used to be the Beijing offset printing factory, whose predecessor came from the banks of the Yangtze River.

At that time, a number of private printing companies moved to Beijing from Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, Chongqing and other places, and established a number of printing factories in Beijing. After the restructuring of public-private partnership, they were named "Jinghua Offset Printing Factory". The back street of the art museum was renamed Beijing Offset Printing Factory 8 years later. It is the first factory in Beijing to adopt offset printing technology.

With the changing times, the old industrial formats are no longer suitable for the development of the core area of the capital.

Take the Damoulin Flour Factory as an example. With the acceleration of urbanization, the problems of traffic congestion, labor-intensiveness, dust pollution and noise disturbance in the original format gradually emerged. It was closed in 2014 and carried out by Shounong Development Company. Retrofit and upgrade.

  Take advantage of your unique

Similar environmental problems also plagued the residents around the original factory area of the Beijing offset printing factory. At that time, the pollution and noise problems caused by the production of the offset printing factory were increasingly inconsistent with urban development, and the printing business was also gradually declining.

After the factory moved out of the city center, how can the park that was left play a new role?

Founded in 2014, 77 Cultural and Creative Park is one of the first municipal-level cultural and creative industrial parks in Beijing.

"Across the street are the National Art Museum of China and Sanlian Bookstore, the former site of the Red House of Peking University to the west, the Beijing People's Art Theater to the south, and the Central Academy of Drama to the north. The theater resources are unique." General Manager of 77 Cultural and Creative Art Museum Park Pan Pengfei told reporters.

Because of this, the park is positioned as a themed cultural industry park with film, television and drama as its core content.

The original factory space and warehouse of the offset printing factory were reinforced on the basis of the original building, and the 77 Theater was built.

The heavy I-beam column and the dark red rusted steel plate have become the important features of the theater. The door weighing 3 tons can be lifted and opened automatically as a whole, which enables the theater to change from being closed on four sides to being open on three sides within two minutes. sexual space.

There are 200 performances of various kinds every year, attracting a large number of creative and performance resources to the park.

The advantages of industrial heritage also allow the old factories to exert social benefits in addition to economic benefits.

Damofang Cultural and Creative Park actively integrates into regional development, and builds a modern cultural and creative park according to the theme of "culture + sports + technology". A number of high-quality enterprises and institutions such as China Search, FIBA, and People's Science and Technology have successively settled in.

At the same time, in order to inherit the food culture of the capital, Shounong Food Group built the Capital Food Museum in the park.

The museum displays the food memory of Beijing city from the origin, planting, storage, transportation, processing, supply and utilization of food, "it has important propaganda and educational significance for guiding the masses to save food and love food".

The revitalized park also actively contributes to the construction of local people's livelihood.

The catering and other resources in the park are convenient for the surrounding residents, and the railway vacant land on the south side of the park has been transformed into a parking lot, which solves the difficult parking problem in the surrounding old communities.

There are young people in the alley

The coffee shop mentioned by Zhao Yuqing is now very famous among coffee lovers in Beijing. It is called the "General Bureau of Iron Hand Coffee Manufacturing", and it is a place for young Internet celebrities to check in.

Young people come not only for the aroma of coffee, but also to feel the smell of fireworks in the hutong. The park and the hutong community are organically integrated without disturbing the life of the residents.

And this is also an important advantage of Nanyang·Sharingji as a benchmark project of old city transformation community.

The building used by Nanyang Shared World was once used by Chinese foreign performance companies to review performances. There were stages, dressing rooms, offices and canteens. Since 1994, it has been idle for 25 years.

The old building has become a cultural showcase and rejuvenated, bringing young people into the hutong, and the characteristics of integration without disturbing each other have also maintained a good relationship between the new business format and the old residents.

"Our project is located deep in the hutong, and the old neighbors even leave their keys with us when they go out to travel." Zhao Yuqing said.

Cameras imported from Japan, bronzing machines and die-cutting machines imported from Germany are quietly displayed at the main location of the 77 Cultural and Creative Art Museum. story.

Today, Hutong welcomes young entrepreneurs again.

This "vacation of the cage for the bird" is a win-win situation.

Labor-intensive and energy-intensive industrial enterprises have left, the old city has quieted down and become green, and new industrial growth points have emerged.

Since 2020, the cultural output value per capita and per land of Dongcheng Cultural and Creative Park has continuously ranked first among all districts in Beijing.

Farewell to the industrial enterprises in the old city, and usher in a new future.

Taking the grain industry as an example, taking advantage of the opportunity of the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, retreating from urban areas into suburban areas, into production areas, and into port areas has effectively promoted the upgrading of quality and efficiency. "This is both the law of urban development and the law of industrial development." Shi Yasha said.
