After three years of legal battle against their gas supplier, the 132 tenants of a building in Champigny-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne) won their case.

They accused Engie of overbilling and various meter identification problems.

Sentenced by the tribunal de grande instance of Créteil, the supplier must now pay each 1,125 euros, reports

on Wednesday.

An “endless” battle

Helped by the consumer association CLCV, the plaintiffs also obtained the cancellation of the last invoices issued "which ranged from 300 to 1,400 euros".

They will also benefit from the reimbursement of the consumption of domestic hot water for which they paid provisions between January 2015 and September 2018.

A relief for the tenants who fought an "endless" battle.

Some of them were billed on the basis of simple estimates made by Engie during the installation of the digital meters.

Others had to pay the bills of former tenants or neighbours, or the consumption, sometimes, of a family of six when they lived alone.

Before the 2024 Olympics, the Olympic flame will pass through Val-de-Marne
