The teachers of Val-de-Marne gathered this Wednesday in front of the premises of the Ministry of National Education to demand the recruitment of more teachers.

Faced with a shortage of personnel in the department, they want the organization of an additional competition in order to recruit more, reports France 3 Paris Île-de-France.

“There are 550 teachers missing in the academy and 300 in our department,” said Magalie Trarieux, departmental co-secretary of the National Unitary Union of School Teachers and Teachers (SNUIPP).

According to the union, there is also a significant shortage of replacement teachers.

Competition and training

The demonstrators therefore hope that this new competition, which would be accessible at the "license level", will be set up before the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

Without this, “many children risk not having teachers at the start of the school year”, assures the union official.

In addition, the activists are also asking for training that would allow "the winners of the civil servant trainee competition to ultimately validate a Master 2 equivalence".

This “would be intended to reward tenured teachers”, estimated the representative of SNUIPP 94.
