Governor Maruyama of Shimane Prefecture, who expressed his consent to restart Shimane Nuclear Power Station Unit 2, met with Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hagiuda on the 15th, and the opinions of local governments and others were appropriate for deciding whether to operate or restart the nuclear power plant. We requested that a concrete mechanism that can be reflected be established.

Shimane Nuclear Power Station Unit 2 in Matsue City, which is the only prefecture in Japan, passed the new regulatory standards of the Nuclear Regulation Authority last year, and Governor Maruyama of Shimane Prefecture announced at the prefectural assembly this month that he would agree to restart.

Governor Maruyama met with Minister Hagiuda at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on the 15th and reported that he had agreed to restart.

On top of that, we will establish a concrete mechanism that can appropriately reflect the opinions of the local government and surrounding local governments when deciding whether to operate or restart the nuclear power plant, and support such as road maintenance so that evacuation can be done smoothly in the event of a nuclear disaster. We handed over a request form covering 7 items such as expansion.

In response, Minister Hagiuda replied, "A broad understanding of the residents is important for restarting operations, and we will do our best to provide polite explanations."

After the meeting, Governor Maruyama told reporters, "The risk of a serious accident has not been reduced to zero, and some citizens of the prefecture are worried. In that respect, it was a painful decision to allow the restart. I have requested that it be resolved as much as possible. "
