The VAT rate of certain offers will indeed double and therefore mechanically lead to an increase in these subscriptions, assure Monday evening
Les Echos
.
For its part, the encrypted channel only indicates that it will notify “the precise impact” to its subscribers.
Canal+ nevertheless confirmed “having been informed by the tax authorities on April 21 (…) that the VAT rate applicable to some of its offers would now be 20% and no longer 10%”.
The channel says it analyzes “the scope and consequences of this letter, and in particular the possible remedies”.
BeIN should keep a 10% VAT
According to
Les Echos
, the “rise concerns Canal+, the encrypted channel, which then serves as a base for sports offers and film series.
On average, it will go from 20 to 22 euros per month”.
Are not concerned, according to the newspaper, “Netflix and Disney +, which Canal distributes, (and which are) already subject to a VAT of 20% which does not change”, nor Canal + Series.
BeIN, “sports channel mainly consulted live, remains on its side at 10%”.
“For uncommitted subscribers (who can terminate at any time), the bill will increase in a few months when the measure comes into force, as well as for subscribers newly recruited by the channel”, add
Les Echos
.
On the other hand, specifies the newspaper, "for subscribers hired for one or two years, who represent the bulk of subscribers, it is Canal+ which will absorb the increase in order to collect the right level of VAT for the Treasury, and this until the end of each subscriber's contract".
