A baby giraffe was born on the 10th of this month at a zoo in Obihiro, Hokkaido.

It is the first time in eight years that a baby giraffe has been born at this zoo.

The birth was a 5-year-old female "Yururi" and a 7-year-old male "Maple" baby of "Reticulated Giraffe".



The baby is a male, 1 meter and 80 centimeters in length, and was born after 2:00 pm on the 10th of this month.

The baby stands up about an hour and a half after birth, starts breastfeeding two hours later, and looks fine.



In the video released by Obihiro Zoo in Obihiro City, you can see the mesh pattern that is characteristic of Reticulated Giraffe on the baby, and you can also see the mother Yururi licking the baby.



It is the first time in eight years that a baby giraffe will be born at this zoo, and it will be open to the public as early as this month.



Natsuki Katagiri, who is in charge of breeding, said, "I was relieved that I was born safely. I want everyone to see how they are growing."
