A meeting of experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has compiled a draft report that allows post offices nationwide to provide customer information to local governments that confirm their safety in the event of a disaster.

In the future, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and Japan Post will discuss and implement specific operation methods such as proper handling of information.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' expert meeting, which has been discussing the effective use of information such as customer names, addresses, and moving destinations held by the post office, compiled a draft report at a meeting held on the 14th.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Kaneko said, "Effective use of data as a society will contribute not only to the maintenance and development of the postal business in the future, but also to the realization of the digital rural city national concept."

The draft report cites emergencies such as large-scale disasters and accidents as examples where information can be provided, and it is stated that accurate and prompt safety confirmation and rescue will be possible by communicating information to local governments.

In addition, even if a person who is delinquent in tax moves without moving the resident's card and does not know where he is, by notifying the national or local government of the new address, it is possible to encourage the delinquent to pay the tax. ..

On the other hand, regarding post offices, it was revealed last year that some postmasters diverted customer's personal information to political activities.

The draft report states that proper handling of information is a major premise for the effective use of customer information, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and Japan Post will discuss specific operation methods before implementing it.
