When NHK asked about the status of major summer festivals and fireworks festivals while the new Corona had no restrictions on its activities, two-thirds answered that it would be held for the first time in three years.

This is likely to bring back summer traditions in many areas.

When NHK asked the organizers about the schedule of 38 summer festivals and fireworks festivals all over the country, 26 answered that it would be held for the first time in 3 years, accounting for 68%.

Of these, festivals that represent Japan, such as the "Aomori Nebuta Festival", the "* Gion Festival" in Kyoto, and the "Hakata Gion Yamakasa" in Fukuoka, are scheduled to be held on almost the same scale as before the spread of the new corona.

* Gion will hold a large-scale fireworks display for the first time in three years, such as "Mr." in "Ne",

"Nagaoka Festival Fireworks Festival" in Niigata, and "Omagari Fireworks" in Akita.

In addition, five festivals such as the "Sendai Tanabata Festival" held last year and the "Awa Odori" in Tokushima are scheduled to expand in scale compared to last year.

With the number of people infected with the new corona declining and the period of unrestricted behavior continuing, it is likely that summer traditions will return in many areas.

Below is a list of the main festivals and fireworks displays.

Tanabata decoration of the same scale as before Korona-ka

The "Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival" in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, which is held in July every year and is visited by about 1.5 million people, will be held for the first time in three years.

Nearly 100 large Tanabata decorations of the same scale as before the Korona-ka are scheduled to line up in the shopping district, and the decoration work is currently underway.

On the other hand, stalls with more than 400 stores every year are not allowed to open.

A local woman in her 50s said, "I'm sorry that her daughter is looking forward to opening a store every year, but I'm going to enjoy the Tanabata decoration for the first time in three years."

Hayato Nakamura, chief of the Hiratsuka City Commercial Tourism Division, said, "We can't hold the event as before, but we hope you enjoy the Tanabata decorations that fill the streets."

Seven fireworks festivals are canceled for the third consecutive year

On the other hand, seven fireworks festivals such as the "Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival" in Tokyo and the "Nagara River Fireworks Festival" in Gifu have been canceled for the third consecutive year because of the inevitable crowding.
