The diplomatic and commercial rupture decided by Algeria opens
the biggest crisis between Spain and the Maghreb since the invasion of the islet of Perejil
, if not before.
The situation has not stopped getting worse since a year ago the Government decided to introduce
Brahim Ghali
in Spain without informing Morocco, which reacted by unleashing a wave of immigrants on Ceuta.
Since then, Moncloa seems to have entered into a dynamic of swerves and counterswerves -since the purge of González Laya you have
repatriation of two Algerian opponents - to try to maintain good neighborliness with
two decisive countries for the stability of the region
.
But mistakes in foreign policy have serious and lasting effects.
The reasons for the lurch in the Sahara issue remain obscure.
One thing is that Sánchez appears -late, moreover- and another that has clarified the true reasons for his decision.
Why
abandoned the historical and transversal position of Spain
, endorsed by the UN as the tutelary power of the former colony, through a letter published by the King of Morocco?
Why did he subtract such a decisive turn,
giving up a valuable bargaining chip with Rabat
, to the consideration of Parliament, your coalition partner, your own party and public opinion in short?
They are unanswered questions.
Before the different actors in the zone, Spain today reveals the same weakness that afflicts its Executive.
It seems obvious that Sánchez tries to compensate for the lack of internal cohesion of the Government and its parliamentary precariousness with an irresponsible Caesarism that translates into burdensome blunders for the country's image.
Today the fourth largest economy in the euro projects the impression that it has yielded to Moroccan blackmail without visible gain while
receives the punishment of Algeria
, one of our main gas suppliers.
Asking Brussels for protection so that it corrects its own mistakes and puts Algeria in a commercial position not only betrays its own ineptitude but can be counterproductive.
In fact,
Draghi's Italy has already overtaken Spain as preferred partner
to conduct and export Algerian gas to a Europe seeking energy independence from Russia.
the vaunted
hub
gas will be Italian, not Spanish.
Caesarism is compatible with the growing suspicion that Sánchez does not act freely.
That conjecture was legitimized by the Government when it considered it a good idea to announce the theft of the president's mobile data.
It should be remembered that
Bolanos
, author of the announcement, is called to testify as a witness of the
pegasus case
, when Moncloa was trying to placate its separatist partners, who were involved in a baseless campaign of victimization due to the legal espionage of the CNI.
It was its director who paid the price
.
Meanwhile, Algerian boats arrive in the Balearic Islands and the gas companies fear an upward renegotiation that will obviously affect the bill.
Hard to make it worse.
