A good third of our bins contain waste that could be recycled into compost.

Some communities – around a hundred to date – have understood this, and have already set up the collection and composting of this bio-waste.

The others have until January 1, 2024 to find a solution to sort and recover their food waste and other biodegradable natural waste.

Why organic matter needs to be “aerated”

In Mainvilliers, in Eure-et-Loir, it is Mustapha who, on the handlebars of his cargo bike, carries out these collections: “We collect a bit of everything, bread, eggs, salad… everything that is food.

There, I recovered 11 kg but it can go up to 70 kg.

Luckily my bike has electric assistance,” he laughs.

Once the waste has been recovered, it is treated in composters such as those manufactured by the Mayran Industries workshop.

Johnny Grebert, its manager, explains that “the waste is mixed there, with wood chips, in a large stainless steel tank with blades.

It helps aerate the organic matter.

It's a very simple process, but it makes it possible to produce large quantities of compost in the shortest possible time”.
