WHO warns of cholera outbreak in Ukraine

The World Health Organization has warned of the danger of a cholera outbreak in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.

The United Nations News website quoted Margaret Harris, a spokeswoman for the World Health Organization, as saying that the risk of a cholera outbreak in Mariupol is high, as people have access to less safe drinking water due to damaged pipes.

She noted that Mariupol and neighboring provinces have always had a history of cholera outbreaks, but she stressed, however, that "there have been no confirmed reports of a cholera outbreak."

She explained that the World Health Organization is not on the ground in Mariupol, but will work with partners to provide support.
