China News Service, Liuzhou, June 8th, question: College entrance examination teacher: from as nervous as students to students' "patron saint"

  Author Li Jiaoyang

On June 7, the 2022 National College Entrance Examination kicked off.

Lu Wu, a history teacher who has taught at Liuzhou Tieyi Middle School in Guangxi for 27 years, wore a red T-shirt and started his seventh exam.

"Woke up at 5 o'clock and couldn't sleep." After Lu Wu woke up, the first thing that came to his mind was to prepare a red plastic bag.

"Why? Because students have passed the security check with their bags. If there are metal objects in the bags that trigger the alarm, they have to take out all the things for inspection. I just thought, if there is a bag, I can quickly pack the things." Lu Wu said , this year, a security check has been added before the candidates enter the examination room, and the students will be more nervous psychologically, so the teacher's work will be more meticulous.

Before 7:00, Lu Wu arrived at Liuzhou Tieyi Middle School (Chengzhan Campus).

The roll call took place at 7:20, and at 7:30, he went with the car to the Liuzhou No. 6 Middle School test center, which is 3 kilometers away from the school.

As a teacher sending the test, Lu Wu's mood has been tense since then.

"Even if you enter the test center, you have to worry about whether the students have all their belongings." Lu Wu said that a student he sent for the test before entered the test center and was not sure whether his admission ticket was forgotten at home or dropped on the test bus in the car.

So Lu Wu immediately contacted the bus driver, asked the driver to find a place to stop and check, and then contacted the parents of the candidates to go home to find them, and comforted the candidates: "Don't worry, if you can't find them, it doesn't matter, we will help you, don't worry. In the end, it was the candidate's father who sent the admission ticket to the test center from home.

The bell rang at 9 o'clock, and the first subject of the college entrance examination began.

Lu Wu and other teachers at the school still stood there and did not leave.

Lu Wu explained: "The most fearful thing at this time is that a student suddenly runs out of the examination room. If something goes wrong, we will immediately start to help solve it."

After 15 minutes, candidates were not allowed to enter the examination room, and Lu Wu's heart that had been hanging from the beginning of the examination was temporarily put down.

Looking back at the test center behind him, Lu Wu said bluntly, "It's too familiar." He spent three years in high school here, and this was also his college entrance examination room.

"I didn't take the test back then, I came here by myself." Recalling the college entrance examination 31 years ago, Lu Wu still remembers hearing the sound of crackling firecrackers nearby when he was writing the Chinese paper.

"At that time, I felt that the college entrance examination was just an ordinary test, because there were not many people who could be admitted to the university, and the social attention was not as high as it is now. For the college entrance examination, the teachers will not be as meticulous as we are now." Lu Wu said.

On June 8, the college entrance examination center of Liuzhou No. 6 Middle School in Guangxi Province sent the test teacher Lu Wu to prepare for the test.

This year, nearly 20 years have passed since Lu Wu took the test for the first time.

"I had no experience when I sent for the test for the first time. I was as nervous and afraid as the students. I was afraid that I would not do well enough. After all, this is a major event related to the child's life."

From 2004 to 2022, sending exams for the 7th class of students, Lu Wu is now much calmer.

He mentioned that there was a class of candidates whose car broke down on the way to the test center and needed to be replaced. He said that if the students he brought were in such a situation, he would comfort the students on the spot: "It's a big deal to encounter bumps on the road in life. Change a car, and the destination will still arrive on time.”

In 2022, the number of candidates for the college entrance examination in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will reach 610,000, of which the number of applicants for the unified examination will exceed 440,000.

The college entrance examination is an event that attracts more and more attention from the society.

Today, teachers who have experienced many rounds of sending exams have become the "patron saints" of students' minds before the exam.

On the eve of the exam, Lu Wu and his students said, "This exam only decides which dining hall we will go to for the next four years, not what career, where we work and live in the future." He told the students in class Tell jokes to relieve their nervousness, accompany the nervous students to the school playground for a walk, and do spiritual "massage".

When leaving the school, Lu Wu and other teachers wore headgears with words such as "Examination of God and Bodyguard" and "Victory" to cheer for the students.

High-fives and hugs, students obtained positive psychological hints from teachers and the strength of the World War I exam room through these small actions before entering the exam room.

"Look at the parents standing at the door. They are very nervous, and the students are also nervous. The final test is the mentality. When it comes to the test delivery stage, the teacher's biggest role is to calm the students' hearts." Lu Wu said.
