In its press release dated June 4, ECOWAS asks the Guinean government "to finalize an acceptable transition timetable" and sets the next review of the political situation in this country for July 3. Colonel Amara Camara, Secretary General of the presidency of Guinea, reaffirms that the decision to make a transition of 3 years before the handing over of power to civilians is the result of a collective reflection. He calls for the understanding of the regional and international community, while adding that the Guinea is not closed to a dialogue on the issue.

Colonel Amara Camara rejects criticism of the lack of real dialogue with political parties.

He claims that former President Alpha Condé left for Turkey for medical reasons, but will return to face justice.

He notes that the ex-president has already gone to the United Arab Emirates for treatment before returning, which means for him that the ex-head of state will return again.

He denies any notion of a witch hunt against opponents, like Cellou Dalein Diallo who left the country.

Amara Camara promises that Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, leader of the Guinean junta, will keep his word not to stand in future elections, and that he does not intend to stay in power by postponing the ad vitam aeternam polls.

Death of a protester: "the light will be made"

Colonel Amara Camara promised that "all the light will be shed" on the death of a young man by gunshot on the sidelines of a demonstration against the rise in fuel prices, on June 1, while an investigation has been opened, four police officers and a gendarme arrested.

While “one death is quite regrettable” according to the colonel, he believes that the increase in fuel prices caused by the war in Ukraine being international, “not to demonstrate against the increase in fuel prices is very desirable”

The death of the young man occurs while Conakry has just rejected the request of the United Nations to restore the right to demonstrate, following the decision of the National Committee of the Rally for Development, (CNRD) on May 13 to ban them.
