In Akkeshi Town, Hokkaido, Hokkai Shrimp fishing, which announces the arrival of early summer, has begun, and shrimp boiled in bright red are being shipped one after another.

Hokkai Shrimp is a shrimp characterized by vertical stripes that can be seen in the eastern part of Hokkaido, and fishing this season began on the 6th in Akkeshi Town.

After the shrimp are landed, they are immediately boiled in salt at each processing plant before they lose their freshness.

On the 7th, 550 kg of shrimp boiled in bright red was brought to the market.

At Akkeshi Fisheries Cooperative, we have branded a large size of 25 grams or more as "Daikoku Shimaebi".

In the auction on the 7th, it was traded at the same price as usual at 9600 yen per kilogram.

In recent years, the catch of Hokkai shrimp in Hokkaido has been declining, and the Akkeshi Fisheries Cooperative manages the amount of resources, so shrimp with small sizes and eggs are not taken.

Hirokatsu Okuno, the leader of the Akkeshi Fisheries Cooperative Ebikago Fisheries Group, said, "The Akkeshi Hokkai Shrimp has a delicious and plump texture, so please try it."

Hokkai shrimp fishing in Akkeshi will continue until mid-August.
