The difference between white and brown sugar .. and which is more dangerous to health?

Today, the Gulf Health Council revealed, through its official accounts on social media, the truth of the difference between brown sugar and white sugar, and which one is healthy and best to use when needed.

The council indicated that the scientific fact confirms that there are no major health differences between brown and white sugar, as a spoonful of brown sugar contains 15 calories, and the same amount of white sugar contains 16 calories, just as brown sugar contains molasses. Its color is brown, but white sugar does not contain molasses. Another difference is that brown sugar is sweeter than white sugar.

Despite these differences, they are similar in the risks that lead to many diseases, especially obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

It is noteworthy that the Gulf Health Council recently published that sugar has many names, but its harms remain the same with the change in its names and methods of consumption, and the Council also estimated the upper limit of the quantities allowed for children to eat of sugar, from the ages of 7-10 years, their consumption of sugar should not exceed 24 grams This is equivalent to 6 sugar cubes, and from the ages of 4-6 years should not exceed 19 grams, which is equivalent to 5 sugar cubes, and those under the age of 4 years prefer to avoid sweetened foods and juices at this age.

The Gulf Health Council also indicated that most of the child’s consumption is from added sugar, and the amount of added sugar varies from one product to another according to the manufacturer, so parents should monitor the food label on each product to know the added amount of sugar.
