As less than five months ago on the second day of group A of CAN 2022 (1-0), Burkina overcame Cape Verde (2-0).

Better, Hassan Bandé, the only executioner of the Blue Sharks in Yaoundé, opened the scoring (59th) and made it possible to unlock a meeting dominated by his people.

The Yaoundé striker, who did it again in Marrakech – where Burkina plays for its home matches due to a stadium not approved by CAF – was not necessarily the expected hero of this meeting.

Striker NK Istra 1961 (Netherlands) started the match on the bench and had to come back after Edmond Tapsoba's injury half an hour into the game (30th).

The Stallions thus had many opportunities to open the scoring from the first minutes of the match, but neither Tapsoba, nor Dango Ouattara, nor Cyrille Bayala could materialize the opportunities of the Stallions.

In an empty Grand Stade de Marrakech, the semi-finalists of the last CAN had to wait until the 88th minute to make the break thanks to a header from Dango Ouattara, already a passer on Bande's goal.

It's an ideal start for the Stallions, and especially for the new coach, the Frenchman Hubert Velud, who took

over from Kamou Malo

a little over a month ago.

Tuesday, June 7, for the second day of the qualifiers, Burkina will go to the field of Eswatini

who held Togo in check (2-2)
