The municipal council of Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor) voted at the beginning of May to lower the maximum authorized speed to 30 km / h.

The measure came into effect on Monday morning.

It applies in 98% of the city.

Only the urban bypasses are an exception, specifies France 3 Bretagne.

A part of the city representing approximately 20% of the territory was already subject to a speed limit of 30 km/h.

By generalizing this restriction, the municipal team wanted to "appease the city" and make it a "walkable, cycleable and breathable" space.

Bus traffic, generally traveling at less than 30 km/h, should not be affected.

Place for bicycles

The new speed limits will be accompanied by the implementation of two-way cycle lanes on all one-way streets.

Saint-Brieuc has 120.

Thanks to these developments, “priority [is given] to the most vulnerable users in public space and on the road,” explained the town hall.
