For the first time in France, ammonia emissions will be measured.

90% of them are of agricultural origin.

The figure is even 95% in Brittany, where 17% of national emissions come from.

However, the region only represents 5% of the territory.

It is therefore in 15 voluntary farms in Finistère that the measures will be organized, reports France 3 Bretagne.

A connected device

Ammonia is released in particular during the spreading of manure and the application of mineral fertilizers after reaction in the atmosphere.

To obtain data, farmers will be equipped with an app.

It will allow them to know in real time what they are spreading, how much and on which plots.

The data will be crossed with the measurements taken by the sensors located two kilometers away.

This information will also help to know when it is best to spread.

The project was baptized ABAA and should be spread over four years.

It benefits from the support of the Life program of the European Union.

The project should be extended to all of Brittany, and even to other regions of Europe.
