It's a story largely misunderstood and forgotten in Mexico.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, it is estimated that approximately 250,000 people, victims of slavery, arrived from Africa in New Spain.

Even today, many Mexicans themselves are unaware of their history and their African origins, yet it is considered one of the three pillars of Mexican culture with indigenous and Spanish roots.

Traces of Africa remain in Mexico.

They are found at the heart of populations, but also in many areas of the history of the arts on a daily basis.
