The municipality of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains (Haute-Savoie) has devised a way to please its flower-loving inhabitants while frequently recycling and renewing the city's flowerbeds.
Three times a year, the flowers used to decorate the streets are sold to local residents who wish.
For example, 1,500 plants were distributed to the population on Monday, reports France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.
A tax refund
The device based on a circular economy system has existed for three years and is a delight for the inhabitants.
“We give them back their taxes because we bought the flowers with their taxes, so we give them back to allow them to beautify their house and their garden, commented Mayor Jean-Marc Peillex.
It is a natural gesture”.
Each year, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains devotes a budget of 45,000 euros to its flowered spaces.
The city is also labeled "4 flowers".
The types of flowers offered change depending on the time of year.
