A 100-year-old man from Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, was congratulated by a local competition group for his active practice of billiards and was presented with a certificate of commendation.

The certificate of commendation was given by Hidenosuke Sasaki of Hanamaki City, who will be 100 years old on his birthday in November.

Originally he continued to play tennis as a hobby, but when he was 70 years old, he was introduced to billiards and was fascinated by it. Twenty-five years ago, he improved his skills by opening a billiards class in the city.

He still goes to the classroom about twice a month and enjoys playing games.

At the Hanamaki Billiards Association, executives recently visited the classroom and handed a certificate of commendation, saying that Mr. Sasaki has become a model for people who enjoy billiards and has greatly contributed to the activities of the association.

Mr. Sasaki said, "I lived to be 100 years old because of the billiards. Please love this billiards."

And when I had a stick called a cue, I pierced the ball powerfully and hit it against the target ball and dropped it in my pocket.

Mr. Sasaki said, "Walking around the table is useful for your health. I'm most looking forward to coming to the classroom and meeting you."
