The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports 755 new infections within 24 hours.

That is 490 fewer cases than on Monday a week ago, when 1245 corona infections were reported.

The nationwide seven-day incidence continues to fall to 189.0 from 196.2 the previous day.

Two other people died in connection with the virus.

This increases the number of reported deaths to 138,864.

However, since many federal states do not transmit their case numbers to the RKI at all or only incompletely at the weekend, the numbers are very limited in their significance.

For this reason, the German Press Agency refrains from reporting this on Sundays and Mondays.

At the weekend, RKI boss Lothar Wieler warned of the increasing number of cases in autumn.

Probably all scientists “who are really serious and well-founded, i.e. with specialist knowledge, dealing with this pandemic assume that the numbers will rise again in autumn,” said Wieler on Saturday on Bayerischer Rundfunk.

You will see increasing incidences again.

"But what we don't know - and that's the great unknown - is what disease the virus will make."

Demand for an “anti-corona plan”

For this reason, Wieler calls for an effective legal framework to combat the virus.

"Of course, the legal framework must be right," he said, referring to the Infection Protection Act.

The current version of the law runs until 23 September.

The red-green-yellow federal government is currently struggling to find out what the corona protection requirements for the fall should look like.

The chairman of the World Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, also called for an “anti-corona plan”.

He told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” that an adjustment to the Infection Protection Act was necessary “so that containment measures can be introduced when the situation becomes serious, and uniformly nationwide”.

As an ultima ratio, i.e. the last resort, “the possibility of a lockdown must also be anchored in it”.

"It would be negligent not to put this tool in the toolbox, even if we have to do everything we can to never have to take it out again," Montgomery said.

Other instruments included the obligation to wear masks in public spaces through to distance rules and contact restrictions.

He warned the FDP against blocking new measures.
