• The Cannes Film Festival is not just about films.

  • The event also brings wonderful moments to life outside the halls.

  • The arrival of Tom Cruise was the most spectacular of them.

A day with Tom Cruise, just that, a prize list marked by obvious non-conformism, an air of rock'n'roll... 2022 was a very fine Cannes Festival from the point of view of films, but other things will have marked festival-goers for this festive edition.

Because it was the first time that the film industry had met in three years.

And five events will be remembered after this 75th edition.

24 hours with Tom Cruise

Stars like Tom Cruise, there are not many left.

If we are to believe Jon Hamm, there aren't even any left at all… His 24 hours on the Croisette were the highlight of the Festival.

The meeting that allowed him to talk about his career and the triumphant screening of

Top Gun: Maverick

by Joseph Kasinski, still visible in theaters, marked both festival-goers and onlookers.

The latter were able to see the Patrouille de France come to greet the actor who resumed his role as a daredevil pilot, thirty-six years after the first

Top Gun

.

Ruben Ostlund joins the clan of webbed doubles

The Swedish director had already received the supreme award in 2017 for

The Square

.

His second Palme d'or for

Sans Filtre

allows him to join the prestigious club of filmmakers with double palms, including Francis Ford Coppola, Shoei Imamura, Bille August, Michael Haneke, the Dardenne brothers, Ken Loach and Emir Kusturica.

This irreverent and jubilant comedy seduced the Vincent Lindon jury with its ferocity in mocking the greed of today's society.

Ruben Ostlund has found his own tone.

The party for “Elvis” lit the fire

It was insane.

Baz Luhrmann and his team – including Tom Hanks and discovery Austin Butler who plays the title role – brought the King back to life in the biopic

Elvis

(out June 22).

Not only is the film remarkable, but the party that followed proved that Cannes is always on the job when it comes to making people dream even outside of the dark rooms.

A ballet of drones reproducing the silhouette of Elvis and a concert by the Maneskin group filled the Croisette with wonder.

The absence of Diam's in the flesh

Diam's was only in Cannes in video images to present the documentary

Salam

which she co-directed with Houda Benyamina (Caméra d'or for

Divines

in 2016) and Anne Cissé.

The ex-rapper had sent a message to justify her absence.

We had to turn the world back to the screening as the fans were impatient to discover the film distributed in theaters on June 1 and 2, but also on the BrutX streaming platform.
