Author of "How to Kill Your Husband": I did not kill my husband and was at the scene of the crime, preparing a new novel!

An American novelist who wrote an article entitled "How to Kill Your Husband" has been indicted by a jury in the western state of Oregon, for the murder of her husband.

And it took the jury in Portland just eight hours, on Wednesday, to reach a verdict to convict Nancy Crampton Brophy, of shooting her husband, Danielle Brophy.

Prosecutors said, according to "AFP", that the writer published several books with sensational titles, including "The Wrong Husband" and "The Wrong Lover".

Crumpton Brophy was going through a financial crisis before she shot her husband twice in the heart in June 2018, at the culinary institute where he worked, according to the court.

Crampton Brophy, 71, denied the accusation, saying that her presence at the crime scene, according to CCTV footage at the scene, was intended to inspire her writing.

She also claimed that a missing pistol that police believed was the murder weapon had been purchased in preparation for writing a novel, and denied that hundreds of thousands of dollars she would have earned from her husband's insurance contracts were a motive for the murder.

The Oregonian newspaper reported that Crampton's lawyers will appeal the ruling.

"Nancy Brophy loved her husband," attorney Kristen Winnemmler told the jury at the trial, adding: "You can see it in her eyes, which twinkle every time she talks about him."

Crampton Brophy was arrested in September 2018, and has been in detention ever since.

Attorney General Shawn Overstreet presented several evidence showing "how Crampton Brophy conspired to kill her husband," who was 63 years old.

"It's not just about the money, it's about the lifestyle that Nancy would have liked, and Dan couldn't provide for her," he said during the trial.

Crumpton Brophy denied the allegations that she was in a financial crisis, during her court appearances last week, saying that her "financial problems were resolved long before" her husband's death.

"My financial situation is better with Dan alive than when he died," she added.

Crampton Brophy faces a possible life sentence, and she will be sentenced at a later date.

In her article "How to Kill Your Husband", which is still readily available on the Internet, Crampton Brophy explains the methods and motives for getting rid of an unwanted husband.

This includes financial gain and the use of a firearm, although the article notes that guns are "noisy and messy, and require some skill".
