The Alumni Exhibition, organized by the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, kicked off until the fifth of next June in the Dubai Design District, to celebrate the graduation of the first batch of students who will receive the first multi-track Bachelor’s degree in design in the region, which consolidates Dubai’s position as a global center for design, creativity and future industry.

The exhibition is the most important event organized by the institute, which was established in 2018 to empower a new generation of designers, innovators and entrepreneurs in the region and beyond.

As a culmination of their inspiring academic journey, participating students present the fruits of the success of their unique academic journey over the past years as graduation projects.

From creating a digital art collection in the form of phygital NFTs that will be linked to a charitable organization through a student, to a “Vigital” guide that helps children develop skills in regulating their emotions, visitors to the exhibition will see the outcomes and thinking of the students of the innovation-centred design program , through a variety of methods, prototyping and digital interactive presentations.

Other projects submitted by students include a complete design of an app that aims to support dementia patients in the early to middle stages by treating memory using artificial intelligence and augmented reality techniques.

Others are showing a meditative system that works as an interactive physical therapy for children, and other projects center around the human and plant community on Mars, designing high heels using a three-step process that includes stress identification testing.

For his part, Mohammed Abdullah, President of the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, said: “We are proud of the quality of our students and the thought-provoking work presented to the public at our first alumni fair.

Our first batch graduates have spent a rich four-year career developing a design- and innovation-driven mindset.”

He added: “With digital transformation and the trend towards the Fifth Industrial Revolution, modern innovations and creative ideas have become indispensable.

Our students represent that cadre of thinkers, innovators and creators, who focus on the future to determine the world of tomorrow, and their projects in the exhibition are only a starting point to contribute to building the best future for human societies.”
